Coffee for its Drinkers

Updated: Jun 23, 2023

So it's Monday again. Neha gets up, goes to the kitchen to get her coffee brewing, and makes her favorite scrambled eggs. She gets dressed and is ready to leave for college so she fills her tumbler with lots of ice, a shot of freshly brewed coffee, umm what aroma and texture!!! and a tad of milk to go.

She reaches college, meets her gang, and enters the boring lecture hall for a two-hour AP calculus class. The caffeine hit is all that keeps her going through that lecture. After a hectic day, she reaches home and gets ready for a spin class. She takes a shot of green coffee and mixes it with her whey protein for a pump. The spin class was so good she was sweating buckets.

Coffee is a pivotal part of our life that combines invigorating power and enticing nuance. There are a wide variety of beans that offer distinct flavours. Indian Arabica provides a milder flavour as compared to the intensity of Indian Robusta. These coffees have a great scent and an exotic, full-bodied taste that are typically gentle and not overly acidic.

A good cup of coffee travels a long way to get to your table. The southern region of India is where coffee is primarily grown. The majority of India's total coffee production, or around 70%, is produced in Karnataka. Kerala, which produces just around 23% of all coffee, is the second-largest producer overall, but it is far behind. India produces 6% of its coffee in Tamil Nadu, the third-largest producer. The Nilgiri district, a significant Arabica growing region, produces about half of Tamil Nadu's coffee. The production is less in Orissa and the northeastern regions. The entirety of India's coffee crop is grown in the shade. It is frequently remarked that the Indian coffee farmer invests his entire life in the crop. Then, it should come as no surprise that India has continually produced and exported a wonderful array of high-quality coffees for more than 150 years!

Sam took his date for coffee. They went to the most scenic cafe in town. Sam is standing in line perplexed, staring at the coffee menu. He wants to order a cup and make a good first impression. Just like humans come in all shapes and sizes, so is our beautiful beverage. Let's try to help Sam:

  1. ESPRESSO: is the name given to a bittersweet, extremely concentrated coffee with Italian origins. While a well-made espresso will typically have a substantial body, rich texture, and a bittersweet taste, the flavour of espresso will vary greatly depending on the coffee (including the roast), the quality of the grind, and the technique used to prepare it. Each shot should have a crema (foam) layer on top that ranges in colour from golden to dark tan.

  2. DOPPIO (DOUBLE ESPRESSO): Doppio is a strong coffee that is made from just two small espresso shots, each measuring two ounces (or 60 milliliters) of coffee.

  3. MACCHIATO: One shot of espresso is typically added to a macchiato coffee and topped with milk foam.

  4. AMERICANO: An espresso shot that has been topped off with hot water or just filtered coffee is what makes an Americano or Long Black.

  5. CAFÉ LATTE: A latte is an espresso-based beverage made with steamed milk in a 1:3 to 1:5 ratio and a small amount of microfoam.

  6. CAPPUCCINO: One of the most consumed types of coffee worldwide is the cappuccino. Latte coffee has slightly more milk than cappuccino, which has equal amounts of espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk.

  7. FLAT WHITE: A flat white is an espresso prepared in a similar way to a latte or cappuccino, with the sole difference that it lacks microfoam and merely contains textured milk.

  8. AFFOGATO: Affogato is Italian for “drowned”. This is a scoop of vanilla ice cream doused in a shot of espresso.
